Chica Paula was born 1970 in Santiago de Chile. In 1974, Paula and her family had to exile from Chile to Frankfurt am Main, Germany, for political reasons. Chica Paula and her mother returned to Santiago in 1979. Her older brother, Martin Schopf aka Dandy Jack aka Sieg Über Die Sonne, stayed in Frankfurt. With Martin remaining in Germany throughout the 80’s, he was able to introduce Paula to electronic music that strongly influenced her.
In 1990, attracted and fascinated by the development of what would become techno culture, Paula moved to Berlin. She got into the Berlin Party scene very quickly and ended up riding the wave of the Berlin techno revolution.
In 1995, she met Gudrun Gut who was running the Ocean Club, a Berlin electronic music collective. Paula joined and soon was playing at Tresor club as a resident for the Ocean Club’s Sunday night events alongside DJ's/Producers Thomas Fehlmann, Mike Vamp and bands like Sun Electric. This was the beginning of her successfull career as a Dj. In 1997, the Ocean Club transformed into a radio show which still airs every Friday night on the public broadcaster Radio Eins.
In the early 90’s, her brother Dandy Jack founded Ruta 5, a label for South American electronic music. Paula joined the project in 2000. That same year she gave birth to her daughter and was inspired by the idea of a compilation of electronic music for children. Finally in 2003 the compilation “Music for Children” (Ruta 5 / Bruchstuecke) was released, featuring artists like Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano Nicolet, Pink Elln, Thomas Fehlmann, Dinky and many others.
In 2003, Paula worked together with Max Loderbauer (NSI, Moritz Von Oswald trio) on her first album “42 Mädchen” under the alias Chica and the folder (Monika Enterprise). Their record was critically acclaimed by the international press. In 2009, she released her second album on the label Monica Enterprise “Under The Balcony” acompanied by a 12” “Mixes From The Balcony” with remixes from Ricardo Villalobos, Sonja Moonear and Pikaya. She is now preparing her next 12” for the Berlin based label Kalk Pets.
